About the Adachi Ward Camera
This camera covers Adachi, the ward at the northern edge of Tokyo, bounded by the Arakawa and Sumida rivers and reaching up to the Saitama border. It is largely residential and industrial, and it looks nothing like the Tokyo most visitors see.
Kita-Senju is the hub. Five lines meet there, making it one of the busiest interchange points in the city, and the area around the station has a dense, old-fashioned shopping district that has survived far better than in many comparable parts of Tokyo. The ward was a post town on the Nikko Kaido in the Edo period, and the street pattern still reflects that.
The rivers dominate the geography. Much of Adachi is low-lying, and the embankments along the Arakawa are substantial pieces of infrastructure. The Adachi Fireworks Festival is held on those riverbanks in July and is usually the first major fireworks event of the Tokyo season.
