About the Tokyo Skyline Camera
This camera takes in a wide sweep of the central Tokyo skyline. It is not aimed at one building; the subject is the outline of the city and the sky above it.
Tokyo has no single downtown. High-rises stand in separate clusters — Shinjuku, Shibuya, Marunouchi, Roppongi and the bay side — with low-rise city filling the gaps between them. That pattern comes from ground conditions and from decades of district-by-district height limits, and it makes Tokyo's skyline read very differently from cities built around one concentrated core.
The changes worth waiting for are in the light. Low morning sun, midday haze, the colour of the sky either side of sunset, and the slow hour when office windows light up one floor at a time. On clear winter days the Tanzawa mountains and sometimes Mount Fuji appear on the western horizon.
