About the Kiba Park Camera
This camera looks over Kiba Park in Koto ward, one of the larger open green spaces in eastern Tokyo. A canal runs through it, crossed by the high arch of Kiba Park Bridge.
The name is literal: kiba means timber yard. For centuries this was where Tokyo's lumber trade stored its logs, floating them in the canals to keep them from splitting. The industry moved east to Shin-Kiba in the 1970s as the waterfront was reorganised, and the vacated land became this park.
It is a working local park rather than a sightseeing destination — lawns, joggers, dog walkers and families, with the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo on the northern edge. Cherry trees along the water draw a crowd for a short window in spring, and the wide sky over the open ground makes it a decent place to read the weather.
