Hisaya Odori Park In Nagoya

Nagoya LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Hisaya Odori Park Camera

Hisaya-odori Park is the long green spine running through Sakae, Nagoya's main downtown district. It stretches roughly a kilometre north to south along a boulevard that was laid out unusually wide during post-war reconstruction, and it has been the city's central gathering ground ever since.

The park reopened in September 2020 after a redevelopment by Mitsui Fudosan that added the RAYARD Hisaya-odori Park retail zones, turning a tired strip of lawn into a run of terraces, cafes and open lawns. At its northern end stands the Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER, completed in 1954 as Japan's first freestanding television tower and now a registered tangible cultural property.

The frame changes with the calendar as much as the clock. Cherry blossom and open-air lunches fill it in spring, the Nagoya Festival and beer gardens take over in autumn, and from November the park hosts one of the city's larger illumination displays.
