Hakodate Station Front

This camera looks over the plaza in front of JR Hakodate Station, the main rail gateway to southern Hokkaido since the Hokkaido Shinkansen extension reaches nearby Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto. Local trains, buses and the Hakodate City Tram all converge in this area.

Hakodate itself is known for its night view from Mt. Hakodate, the Motomachi district and the morning market, all a short ride or walk from this station front.

This plaza sees more through traffic than its size suggests. The Hokkaido Shinkansen does not reach Hakodate itself; it stops at Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto, roughly twenty minutes out, and the Hakodate Liner shuttle delivers those passengers here. The morning market is a two-minute walk and opens early, so the first busy stretch of the day at the station front often comes well before the commuter peak.
