Yokosuka Umabori Coast

This is one of Yokosuka City's disaster monitoring cameras, pointed at the Umabori coast on the eastern shore of the Miura Peninsula. It exists to watch sea and weather conditions rather than to show a view.

The stretch faces the Uraga Channel, the entrance to Tokyo Bay, so there is near-constant shipping traffic passing offshore — everything bound for Tokyo, Yokohama or Chiba funnels through this water. On clear days the Boso Peninsula is visible across the channel.

Because it is a municipal monitoring feed, it is most useful in bad weather: swell during typhoons, wind conditions, and the state of the seawall. For official warnings and evacuation information, always use the Japan Meteorological Agency and Yokosuka City's own announcements rather than relying on this camera.
