Suzaka Goolight View

This camera is run by Goolight, the cable station serving Suzaka in northern Nagano, and shows the town and the basin around it.

Suzaka sits on the eastern side of the Nagano basin at the foot of the Suzaka hills. It grew as a silk town — reeling mills lined the streets through the Meiji and Taisho periods, and the surviving warehouse buildings, the kura, are now the thing the town is best known for. Several have been converted into museums and shops along the old merchant streets.

As a camera it is a straightforward local view: the town, the sky above the basin, and the changing seasons on the hills behind. Fruit growing dominates the surrounding land, so the slopes shift markedly between blossom in spring and harvest in autumn.
