About the Otaru Mt. Tengu Ropeway Camera
This camera covers the ropeway climbing Mt. Tengu (Tenguyama), the 532-metre peak overlooking Otaru's historic harbor. The summit is one of Hokkaido's classic night-view spots, looking out over the canal town and the Sea of Japan.
The lower half of the mountain runs a ski area in winter, while the ropeway and observation deck stay open year-round for the view. Sea fog rolling in off the coast is common on summer afternoons and can hide the view within minutes.
Mount Tengu is 532 metres and the ropeway covers it in about four minutes, which makes the summit an easy detour from the canal rather than an expedition. The view from the top is counted locally as one of Hokkaido's three great night views alongside Hakodate and Mount Moiwa, and the observation deck is known for the collection of long-nosed tengu masks kept at the summit building.
