Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium

About the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium Camera

This camera streams from the observation deck at the top of Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, the large hill in Miyanomori on Sapporo's western edge. It was built for the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics and still hosts international competition.

The deck sits at the jumpers' start gate, and the view down the inrun is the point. Standing at the top gives a very direct sense of the gradient — steeper in person than it looks on television — with the city spread out beyond the landing slope.

A chairlift carries visitors to the deck outside competition periods. Because the hill faces roughly east over the city, mornings are backlit and afternoons light the slope more evenly. In winter the whole structure is white and the contrast with the city below is at its strongest.
