About the Naha Airport (RBC) Camera
This is the Ryukyu Broadcasting Corporation feed from Naha Airport, and it is the second Naha Airport camera on the site. The other is the QAB weather camera, which frames the airport as one part of a wider sky view; this one is oriented on the airport itself.
Naha gained a second runway on 26 March 2020, built about 1,300 metres offshore and parallel to the original, 2,700 metres long. Two runways allow simultaneous movements, and the airport's annual handling capacity went from roughly 135,000 to about 240,000 movements, close to a 1.8-fold increase. That change is the reason the traffic here looks heavier than it did a few years ago.
The field is shared. Japan Air Self-Defense Force Naha Air Base sits alongside the civil terminals, so military and commercial aircraft use the same runways, and the mix on this camera is broader than at most Japanese airports. Weather is the other thing worth watching: Okinawa sits on the typhoon track, and Naha is often the first major airport in the country to suspend operations when one approaches.
