Kyoto Station Area, Western Sky

This camera looks west over the area around JR Kyoto Station, tracking sky and weather conditions rather than a single fixed landmark. Kyoto Station itself, one of Japan's largest, sits at the southern edge of the city's historic core.

Facing west gives a useful read on incoming weather and evening light, since most weather in the Kansai region tends to move in from that direction.

The Kyoto basin is closed in by mountains on three sides, which is the reason the city's weather behaves the way it does: heat and humidity sit in the bowl through summer, and cold air pools in it through winter. Systems arriving over the Tanba highlands to the west show up in this frame before they reach the city, so a west-facing view is a genuinely early read rather than just a scenic one.
