About the Kyoto Camera
This camera looks across Kyoto. The source stream does not single out one temple or landmark, so the frame is the city itself and the sky over it.
Two things shape what you see. Kyoto sits in a basin closed by mountains on three sides, so a ridgeline is almost always somewhere in the frame. And the city enforces strict height and colour ordinances, which is why the skyline stays low and unusually even — set it beside any other major Japanese city and the difference is immediate.
The basin also drives the weather. Summers are humid and hold their heat; winters bring the deep, still cold that Kyoto residents call hiebie. Mist settles in the basin on some mornings, and the seasonal colour on the surrounding slopes turns over visibly through the year.
