About the Kumamoto City Zoo Giraffe Camera
This camera watches the Masai giraffe enclosure at Kumamoto City Zoo and Botanical Garden, streamed on the city zoo's official live channel. The zoo occupies a site beside Lake Ezu in eastern Kumamoto City.
Masai giraffes are the tallest land animals alive, and the subspecies is distinguished by its markings: jagged, vine-leaf shaped patches rather than the neat polygons of other giraffes. No two individuals share the same pattern, so once you have watched for a while you can tell them apart.
Giraffes browse for most of the day and sleep very little, usually standing. Watch for the long neck reaching into the feed racks, the peculiar splayed-leg posture they adopt to drink, and the slow deliberate walk that covers ground faster than it looks. Cold mornings often bring them out into the sun.
