Kojimachi, Chiyoda

Tokyo LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Kojimachi, Chiyoda Camera

Kojimachi occupies the high ground west of the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda ward, on the ridge between Hanzomon and Yotsuya. It is central Tokyo without the crowds — offices, embassies, broadcasters and a quiet residential layer sitting on top of each other.

The district was laid out in the Edo period as housing for retainers serving the castle, and the street grid still follows that pattern: narrow lanes running off a main road, with sudden drops in elevation where the plateau falls away toward Ichigaya.

Because it is unspectacular, this camera works well as a weather and light reference for central Tokyo. Rain arriving, cloud thickening, the angle of afternoon sun on the buildings — those read clearly here without a crowd or a landmark competing for attention.
