Kawachinagano and Mount Iwawaki

This camera looks out from Kawachinagano City Hall toward Mount Iwawaki, the 897-metre peak that dominates the southern skyline of the city.

Iwawaki is best known for its summit grassland. The open expanse of susuki pampas grass near the top is maintained by controlled burning each spring — a practice kept up for centuries because the grass was harvested for thatch. In autumn the seed heads turn silver and the whole slope changes colour.

The camera is framed as a general view of the town and the hills behind it, which makes it a reasonable weather reference for southern Osaka. Cloud building over Iwawaki is often the first sign of a change coming across the Kongo range.
