Kabukicho — Ward Office Intersection

Tokyo LIVE --:--:-- JST

About the Kabukicho — Ward Office Intersection Camera

This camera looks at the intersection by the Shinjuku ward office, on the eastern side of Kabukicho. It is a quieter corner than the main gate on Yasukuni-dori, and the traffic through it is a mix of taxis, delivery vehicles and people cutting between blocks.

Kabukicho is Japan's best-known entertainment district, packed into a few blocks northeast of Shinjuku Station: restaurants, bars, hotels, cinemas and game centres stacked several floors high. The ward office end sits behind the busiest strip, so it shows the district's working side more than its shopfront.

The daily cycle is the thing to watch. Kabukicho is subdued through the morning, wakes properly in the late afternoon, and runs at its densest after the last trains have gone, when people who have missed them are still out on the street.
