Hokuriku Asahi Broadcasting Headquarters
About the Hokuriku Asahi Broadcasting Headquarters Camera
This camera is run by Hokuriku Asahi Broadcasting, known locally as HAB, and looks out from the broadcaster's headquarters in Matsushima on the northern side of Kanazawa. The building across the road is HAB's annex. It is a plain street view rather than a scenic one, which is exactly what makes it useful.
HAB is the only full ANN network affiliate in the three Hokuriku prefectures, and its news coverage area reaches into Toyama as well as Ishikawa. The station runs this feed as part of its disaster-information service, alongside cameras at Wajima Port, Chirihama beach, the Ishikawa prefectural government building and Kanazawa Station.
That purpose explains what to watch for. Standing water on the road, snow piling at the kerb and the way the flag outside the building is moving all give a direct read on conditions in northern Kanazawa. Winter is when the camera earns its place: Kanazawa sits on the Sea of Japan coast and takes heavy, wet snow, and this stretch of road shows it accumulating and being cleared in real time.
