Docomo Tower View — National Stadium and Shinjuku

This camera sits high on the NTT Docomo Yoyogi Building, the clock-topped tower that stands just south of Shinjuku Station and reaches about 240 metres. The height gives it an unusually wide sweep across the western half of central Tokyo.

In the frame you can pick out the National Stadium with its timber-lattice eaves, completed in 2019 to a Kengo Kuma design; the dark rectangle of Shinjuku Gyoen; the Shinjuku high-rise cluster; and further out the Shibuya towers that have gone up around the station over the past decade.

It is a good camera for weather rather than detail. Cloud moving across the basin, haze, and on clear winter mornings the Tanzawa range and sometimes Mount Fuji on the western horizon are all easier to read here than from street level.
