About the Chiba City Camera
This camera covers Chiba City, the prefectural capital, on the eastern shore of Tokyo Bay. It is a working port and industrial city as much as a commuter one, and the waterfront reflects that.
Chiba has one genuine curiosity: its urban monorail is suspended rather than straddled, with the cars hanging beneath the rail, and the network is the longest of that type anywhere in the world. Seeing the trains pass overhead with nothing visibly supporting them from below is the local equivalent of a landmark.
The bay dominates the outlook. Chiba Port Tower, a 125-metre observation building completed in 1986, marks the waterfront, and the industrial belt runs north from here toward Ichihara. Weather crossing Tokyo Bay from the west is usually visible well before it arrives.
